I'd still recommend browning them quickly on all sides before adding them to your slow cooker (for extra flavor).     I can’t wait to try these. But I’m not sure what “fresh” ground sage is. Would that be the same as McCormick’s ground sage? Or McCormick’s rubbed sage. Neither of these are fresh, so I’m confused.

      Apologies for the confusion here! You’ll just need ground sage (McCormick is great).
