In reply to Monique. Just wanted to write back. We used the rack per this comment and then the black thing happened to me that someone wrote above. I added hot water to it but it keeps drying out and don’t have much to baste on. I would strongly recommend against a rack for anyone else. Maybe mine was too high? I saw a trick about making foil rings on the bottom but either way I would recommend against a rack for the future

This may be a silly question but should the breast side be up when roasting? also when you say rotate the turkey do you mean flip it over so the breast is down and then up or do you mean rotate the pan so the front moves to the back and so. Sorry again if this is a silly question first time turkey maker tomorrow and cannot wait for this recipe!!

In reply to Anonymous. A roasting pan with a rack is perfect! Does yours have that? It does help to cook the turkey nice and evenly and allows you to easily collect the juices for basting.

Hi! Could you please tell me , is 1 teaspoon of salt enought for a whole turkey 14lbs? Ive seen many recepies where a lot of salt put into it. Im confused

Question I’m making this for our first time hosting and so excited. I see in the comments someone used a roasting pan with a rack. Ours has that. Should I get a different pan? I did notice the one you linked above has the rack too though. Just want to make sure before Thursday. Thank you!!!!

Does the amount of time based on weight mentioned in step 9 include the first 30 minutes of cooking at 425 in step 8?
